Each room comes with a spectacular garden or ocean view and the design for the guestroom embraces and pays homage to the buildings oceanfront, parkland site.

The luxurious Presidential Suites are lavishly decorated and the bathrooms have received special designer attention, with the choice of the Zucchetti - Soft range of tapware, design by Ludovica + Roberto Palomba, which was used to accentuate the extensive marble surfaces throughout the wet areas, through the use of the large mirror finish surfaces of the tapware. This range of tapware makes a bold statement yet is softened with gentle curved edges.

The Isystick Kitchen mixer with square spout, designed by Matteo Thun and Antonio Rodriguez, was used in the bar area for a minimalistic appeal, so as not to encroach on the stunning Australian coastal views from within the space.

Hotel Maria Cristina

Location: San Sebastian, Spagna

Completed: 2012

Collections used: Zucchetti Bellagio

Since opening in 1912 the Hotel Maria Cristina has been closely linked to the history and cultural life of San Sebastian.

In the late 19th century the seaside town became a favourite destination for royalty and aristocrats who came to enjoy the sunshine and newly recognised therapeutic properties of sea bathing.

San Sebastian had passed from being a sleepy fishing village into a thriving cosmopolitan town requiring luxurious, modern facilities to meet the demands of its discerning guests.

This urban blossoming occurred at the height of the Belle Époque era, and today the majority of buildings, including the Hotel Maria Cristina, are constructed in this style.

Since the San Sebastian International Film Festival was inaugurated in 1953 Hotel Maria Cristina has been the rendezvous spot and preferred accommodation of the stars, attracting legendary names such as Elizabeth Taylor, Bette Davis, Woody Allen, Julia Roberts, Richard Gere, Brad Pitt and Susan Sarandon.

The recently restored Hotel Maria Cristina is an integral destination for international explorers. 107 guest rooms and 29 suites, each devoted to the classic, opulent style of the Belle Époque.

The Langham Hotel

Location: Chicago, USA

Completed: 2013

Collections used: Zucchetti Bellagio

The Langham, Chicago resides on floors 2-12C in the former IBM building in the heart of Chicago. The building, situated on the plaza overlooking the River, is the last office building designed by famed German architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, known as one of the masters of the Modern Movement.

A rectangular prism of bronze-tinted aluminium and bronze glass resting on columns, it is a classic example of a modern skyscraper. Commissioned in 1966, the building was overseen by van der Rohe until his death in 1969. It opened in 1971 and was given landmark status in 2008.

The Langham, Chicago is the first hotel in the world to reside in a Mies van der Rohe designed building.

As the only Mies building to feature double-paned glass, now called thermopanes, it was on the forefront of the “green” movement.

Given the building’s iconic status, the conversion of 13 of its floors into a luxury hotel involved the work of a group of architects and designers: Dirk Lohan, Goettsch Partners, Richmond International. Notable is the involvement of Chicago-based architect Dirk Lohan of Lohan Anderson. The grandson of Mies van der Rohe, Lohan worked on the IBM building in the mid to late 1960’s with his grandfather. Today Lohan has taken the historic ground-floor lobby level and fashioned the space into a hotel reception area, mindful not to disrupt its original travertine walls and granite floors. Also the sofas featured within this space are patterned after an original piece that Mies designed for his daughter in the late 1940s which was never commercially produced but remained in the family.

Chicago Architect Goettsch Partners and London-based interior designer Richmond International, worked to create a space that marries the traditional aesthetics of the Langham brand within a Mies van der Rohe designed building. Focusing on clean lines, quality materials and precise details, The Langham, Chicago is a light and airy environment where the Chicago River and city’s dynamic skyscrapers serve as the background.

The marriage between fine art, architecture and interiors is prevalent throughout the project. More than 140 artists, inspired by Mies van der Rohe and the Bauhaus School, are showcased in the various hotel’s areas.

The emphasis on art continues on the fifth-floor level, where the 316 guest rooms begin. Guestrooms bathed in light from the floor-to-ceiling windows start at 516 sq ft in size and feature ceilings more than 10 feet high.

Bathrooms bathed in travertine stone, a favourite of Mies van der Rohe, measure 98 sq. ft. and feature double-sinks with Bellagio by Zucchetti faucets and a wet room with a separate bathtub and rain shower. Bathrooms are divided from the bedrooms by a glass wall that can be clear or frosted on demand creating either a single oversized room or privacy between room and shower. Also in bedrooms’ furniture the influence of Mies van der Rohe style is evident.
